Kayla also incorporates art history and ways in which various cultures utilize art in their daily lives.
As an artist, Kayla enjoys working with a variety of mediums including textiles, paint, clay, and oil pastels. Kayla is most often inspired to create by her surroundings and enjoys incorporating natural elements to her work. Kayla makes both functional and decorative art.
Adam Helenske is co-owner of Circle of Art Studios, LLC. Adam's pottery business, Helenske Clayworks is housed within Circle of Art Studios. Adam teaches clay classes at the studio. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in ceramics from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He has worked with clay professionally since 2005 and most recently was a resident artist at Pottery Northwest in Seattle where he worked as a studio artist and instructed clay classes for adults over the course of three years.
Adam makes work that is intended for daily use concentrating on wares that can be used in the kitchen and at the dinner table. He feels that the ritual of sharing meals has brought people together for thousands of years and continues to serve an important function in the lives of 21st century culture. It is at this time of sharing food that people can open up and communicate, finding happiness and understanding through like experiences.
It is with this philosophy of understanding that Adam approaches instructing clay courses. Realizing that each student has chosen to learn the same skill, but for different reasons has given Adam an open approach to teaching, allowing each student to learn new skills at their own pace and working to actively engage and relate these skills to a person's life.
